Love At 1st Sight

I swear this Sydney based company is reading my mind! I stumbled across their website yesterday and found the 'Graffiti Stole My Heart' collection, as you can see it is exactly what I was thinking of doing for our dining chairs....

Love at 1st Sight sources pieces from auction houses, markets or even the side of the road. They  collaborate with artists and designers to transform their finds into one off masterpieces.

They also have these wicker chairs....which are so perfectly kitschy and what I was hoping of finding for our balcony.

I don't intend to go out and buy all of this furniture or anything, however it is interesting to see how others have turned the ideas I have into a reality.

Decisions On Glass Domes

Exhibit A:
Leonard Joel
Pair of Victorian glass domes on wooden stands.
Estimated price $275-$325.
Pros:
There are two.
They could sell for significantly less at the auction.
Cons:
The auction starts in half an hour and its raining.
I could get carried away with the excitement and pay too much for these.

Exhibit B:
Oval glass dome on wooden stand with hand.
$225 (not an auction).
Pros:
The hand.
Probably will make less of a dent in my bank account.
Don't have to leave the house right now to buy it.
Cons:
Only one.

Golly gosh what do I do? I think the deciding factor might be the rain. I can't be bothered going to the auction, so that probably means I don't want them that much?

Ideas Ideas Ideas For Dining Chairs

I am BRIMMING with ideas for our dining chairs. I couldn't sleep last night because I was thinking about this so much. The plan is to buy some amazing chairs for next to nothing, possibly at Leonard Joel, cover them with canvas and then commission an artist to paint them.

I am so excited to start this project!

More Mirrors

You would be forgiven for thinking I am extremely vain, considering how often I seem to be writing about mirrors. The truth is I don't actually like looking at myself, I just like the qualities mirrors exude (reflection, light, distortion).

I saw the mirror below at Space Furniture, it is like nothing I have seen before. So stunning I'm actually considering purchasing it, regardless of the large price.

These organically shaped mirrors are pretty amazing too, and nowhere near as expensive...

I wonder if there is anywhere I can get mirrors like either of these examples made to my specifications??

Dahlias And Vases

Please everyone, take note of the deck chairs and camping table we are currently using in lieu of a proper dining table and chairs.  More importantly though, take note of the beautiful dahlias that I got at the South Melbourne Market yesterday, they are doing remarkably well considering that Will left them in the back of the car for 5 hours on a hot day.

The 'vase' is actually something I did for uni last year. I lined the inside of a wicker wine carrying basket with strips of plaster, similar to what you would get a broken bone set with I beleive.

When the plaster dried, I pulled it out and the wicker had left a pattern on the plaster, it was a tangible record of a memory (that's the kind of thing I pondered about at uni).

You would be right in wondering how a plaster vessel acts as a vase... I put a glass inside which is what is holding the water and flowers. So this might not be right for mass production, but I certainly like it.

Bad Feng Shui/ Gallery Wall

I am so sure that the arrangement of my couch and chairs was shocking feng shui. Life was just not good for me for a while. The living room didn't feel right, but I wasn't sure how to fix it.... eventually Will and I just moved the couch and chairs around a bit. There is SUCH a better vibe now and life is good again, it's quite amazing, it makes me want to research further into feng shui.

Since we figured out the problem of the BAD VIBE in the house, I have been able to concentrate on things like hanging artwork and photographs in little gallery arrangements like these below.

We decided to have a mixture of artwork and family photos, using all different kinds and sizes of frames.

I also have a few old mirrors that I've collected, that I want to somehow incorporate.

Each frame has 20mm between it and the next frame. This looks pretty good, although as we add to the wall, this might have to change.

Apart from having a good gallery wall with a mixture of frames and sizes, the room above is so pretty! The chairs remind me of the ones at The Millswyn...

I will possibly do a future post on The Millswyn, the interiors are gorgeous and the food is not bad either.
